I’ve successfully fixed old paper photographs that I’ve scanned into digital formats. Of course, you have to crop out the left and right sides at a minimum, but it does look better.
It’s difficult to get photos like this to look absolutely perfect if it was shot with a non tilt-shift lens. It’s not a matter of just rotating it, as the relationships of all the angles to each other change with perspective.
When I have something like this that has to look absolutely ‘right’, I usually wind up using the mesh warp feature in photoshop and just manually tweak the mapping of the entire image on the plane until I’m happy with the result.
