Windows XP Pro Question

Last night, I installed Windows XP Professional (woohooo!) I like everything about it so far, except for one thing. When I’m using winamp to play mp3’s, other sounds are playing over the music. Any type of sounds, system sounds, AIM sounds, etc… I was wondering if anyone out there knew of a setting to change this? It’s quite annoying to be jamming to your favorite song and have the ICQ ‘uh-oh’ play with it. Thanks

C’mon guys, I’m impatient here. There’s gotta be an XP doper out there somewhere that can answer my question :stuck_out_tongue:

Sure. Turn off all the other sounds. I hate computers that make noises at me, anyway.

Well I like to hear those sounds, whenever I’m not playing music that is

Well, then I hate to say that you’re probably not going to turn them off. The computer doesn’t know that you’re playing music. It just doing the process of playing music…then you click a web link, so it processes that at the same time as the music playing. In order to get it to work like that, you’d have to have the system cross monitor every program, which would slow everything down considerably. Turn off the sounds, or live with them playing while your music plays.

Damn, thats exactly what I didn’t want to hear. The weird thing is, in Win 98 with the exact same hardware setup, the sounds wouldn’t intermix. Maybe it’s because WinXP had an updated driver for my sound card?

The only thing I know, settings-wise is that you can probably limit the number of concurrently running sounds at one time. Set it to one, and then you will only have one sound efect running at any given time.

I believe it’s in the control panel’s sound applet, but I haven’t looked.

wouldn’t this be more of a GQ?

Maybe if you ran the compatibility checker on your XP cd, you would see what programs are NOT compatible…I bet you got some.
