Windoze 98 and my icons

Here’s the problem.

My computer has suddenly decided that the spacing between the icons on my desktop and inside folders should be next to nil. There used to be a nice spacing between them, now they’re pushed right up against each other. Is there any way to adjust the spacing between the icons?

Right-click on your desktop (the area that covers most of your computer screen…usually a solid color or a favorite background you’ve chosen).

A little menu appears…one of the choices in ARRANGE ICONS. Select that and you’re done.

Actually, when you right click on the desktop, go down to “Properties”, then the “Appearance” tab. There should be a drop-down box called “Item”, from which you can set your Icon Spacing, both horizontally and vertically.

Iff Jeff_42’s solution doesn’t set you straight, right click on the desktop, like he said, and then choose “Properties”.

In the dialog box that shows up (Display Properties), click the tab (on the top row) that says Appearance. This controls all aspects of the Windows interface.

From the “item” drop down menu (It should currently be showing Desktop) you can choose Icon Spacing-Horizontal and Icon Spacing-Vertical. Manipulate the settings there until you get what you like.

Dash!

Well, I guess there’s plenty of free time on that uncharted desert isle.

stolichnaya, thats exactly what I was looking for. I remember that being an option with Win 3.1 way-back-when, but I couldn’t find it anywhere with '98. My sincerest thanks.

Isn’t that ‘auto arrange?’ Why not choose to manually arrange them then you can put them whereever you want to on the screen & they stay there? I do that all the time.
