Windscribe VPN - advisable?

I have been using Windscribe for the last couple of months. Today I noticed that Chrome had disabled it pending my permission for what I assume are some new changes to how it works and what it can do.

I am now being told that Windscribe can:

  • Read and change all your data on the websites you visit
  • Display notifications
  • Modify data you copy and paste
  • Change your settings that control websites’ access to features such as cookies, JavaScript, plugins, geolocation, microphone, camera, etc.
  • Manage your apps, extensions, and themes
  • Change your privacy-related settings

On the face of it, giving these permissions seems unwise. On the other hand, Windscribe has a reputation of being a trustworthy extension, is highly rated, and has the Chrome Web Store imprimatur.

Any advice?

Thanks,

I think that the factual question here is “Can Windscribe do all of these things, and is it in fact doing them?”. Advice for what to do about that situation, however, is not factual, and belongs in IMHO. I’ll leave this here for now, with the topic restricted to the factual questions, unless the OP says otherwise.

And the OP has told me that he’d prefer it in IMHO, to cover all of the aspects of the question. Moving.
