Wine: Vosne Romanee 1er Cru Les Chaumes 2012

I had this red wine last night with steak (and potato and leek), and it was delicious. The rest was also delicious with a plain cheese & onion quiche today. A bit young, perhaps, but they seem to be vinting it to be drunk younger these days, and they had hail that year which meant the harvest was poorer. The flavour was rich and smooth with a bit of pepperiness. Not as heavy as a claret, of course.

Sounds nice, I’ll have to look into it. I like red wine a lot, especially since these days I normally limit myself to one or two glasses.

I really like – and bought a couple of cases of – Castelo do Dulco Reserva 2012. The label says it’s made with Touriga Nacional, Aragonez, and Syrah grapes. It’s fruity but not sweet or cloying. Very nice to sip after work or with dinner.

Had a bottle of Malbec from one of my favorite CA wine clubs sitting in my cellar for a few months. I kept telling myself I’d save it for when I next cooked a steak. Last weekend I said to myself: “Self, you are never going to cook a steak at home.” So I popped the cork and sipped it, by itself after dinner, for a few nights. Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful.
