Winning an Ig Nobel prize

I have an idea that could win me an Ig Nobel. If I wanted to put this plan into action, what steps could I take to maximize my chance of success?

Do I need to figure out how to get published in a legitimate scientific journal? After that, how do I get it nominated? Should I be trying to schmooze the committee?

Also, what sort of prize could I receive? Something to put in my trophy case, or only the title of Ig Nobel Laureate?

Self nominees have won in the past:

I think the hard part is getting a humorous item published in a journal if you’re not a legitimate academic.

There is (or used to be) the Journal of Irreproducible Results. They are to report things that either cannot or should not be reproduced. It is primarily humorous. Do not expect your latest cold fusion results to be accepted since they are not funny–only sad.

They’re the ones who award the Igs to begin with. I’m not sure if any previous laureates saw first publication in the JoIR, though.
