Winter Holiday Songs

I think I’m the only one to ever like Christmas music

So what are some good non-christmas songs about the holidays we have this time of year? You know, like for Hanukkah and stuff.

Are there any popular ones that get played on the radio?

Does Baby It’s Cold Outside count? I guess it isn’t really about the holidays, but it a nice winter tune.

Popular? Adam Sandler’s Chanukah Song.

Good? I’ll have to get back to you.

It fits the season so I’ll count it (even if it isn’t a holiday song).

“Al Hanissim” - Cantor Natham Lam & The National Symphony of Isreael

Jingle Bells, *Frosty the Snowman, *and *Sleigh Ride *have nothing at all to do with Christmas. Are you looking for more obscure songs?

ETA: Plus Winter Wonderland.

Two from Jethro Tull - Ring Out Solstice Bells and Last Man at the Party.

They might have nothing to do with Christmas but they’re Christmasy. I will look into any and all songs that get mentioned. To answer your question, it doesnt have to be obscure, just different. Obscure is welcomed as well though.

Under the new rules: Let It Snow

And another thing…

The traditional carol Good King Wenceslas, while definitely a Christian song, has nothing specifically to do with Christmas. (The Feast of Stephen is Dec. 26.)

Valley Winter Song by Fountains of Wayne (also heard on the new LL Bean commercials)

I love the song “Walking in the Air” sung by a Welsh boy soprano.

ETA: After looking further, it seems I fell for a common mistake and am crediting the wrong boy soprano!

Riu Chiu, The Monkees;
THe Holly and the Ivy, George Winston
Or just google ‘christmas mix’ or ‘xmas mix’ and you should get some inspiration from the playlists

I’m first with Fairytale of New York?It briefly mentions the C word, but it is well neutralized:D

There’s a great Hanukkah-related song that my chorus is performing next week: *Not in Our Town, *about how the residents of Billings, Montana responded to anti-Semitic hate crimes.

That is one of my favorites this time of year.

“What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve” by Mindy Smith

“Song for a Winter’s Night” by Sarah McLachlan.

Long December by Counting Crows.

Gordon Lightfoot originally. Both versions are lovely though.

They’re not inherently Christmasy, just Christmasy by association.
