Winter picnic ideas?

Now what do I put in it? Refrigeration isn’t much of an issue, I suppose that’s a bonus, is it appealing to have cold salads and such in the middle of winter?

I’m going for the cute/romantic impress the new relationship type of picnic, so I’m sort of afraid of making stuff he won’t like since we don’t have one another’s weird food preferences down pat yet.

Maybe just simple sandwhich ingredients we can assemble ourselves, but with good bread/meat/cheeses? Thermos of hot soup? Anyone ever done a great winter picnic meal that worked?

What’s your scenario here, sweetie? Are you actually going to eat this outdoors, or spread the cloth in one living room or the other, or what?

A thermos of soup sounds good, with a really nice loaf of bread, some cheese – maybe some grapes or something – brownies for dessert.

I’m winging it, Twix, we haven’t specified plans other than let’s get together after work tonight and suddenly I’m thinking “ooh, surprise picnic!” Cuz we’re all new and cute like that, wanna puke yet?

Can’t go wrong with soup, bread and cheese, whether indoors or if we find somewhere outside with nice scenery. I think I’ll borrow an extra thermos and fill it with hot chocolate, too.
