My work recently gave me a laptop that has wifi. Since I do not have a laptop at home I think it would be nice to have a wireless internet connection so I can surf anywhere in the house. Unfortunately, due to some prior idiot screwing it up for everyone else, the only way this laptop will connect to anything is through a NetMotion connection through my work. Which means, while I can surf wirelessly at home, I still have to go through the net nanny at work. If it was just blocking porn it would be fine, but they block almost everything- anything streaming, any free host, sports, games, etc… So it’s not even really worth my time.
But I was thinking about it today and had the following idea: what if I got a wireless adapter for my personal desktop machine. Then I could connect the laptop and the desktop in an ad-hoc wireless network and remote desktop from the laptop to the desktop. Then I could surf on the laptop, but using my desktop’s internet connection. Right? Is there any reason this would not work? What would I need to do this?
