Wireless router and PCI adapter recommendations

Trying to research is blowing my mind…I could sit here for 2 hours and learn everything I need to know to make a good decision, or I can ask…so ask I shall.

Range is not much concern, I’ll always be within about 30 feet. I don’t do any online gaming, but I do stream video. It won’t be very busy; usually just my desktop, maybe a phone or two or a laptop. So, I don’t think I’m needing anything too extravagant.

I have Time Warner Cable, if it makes a difference. The cable modem is at least 2 years old, too…should I ask them for an upgrade yathink?

I’d ask for an upgrade first; there’s nothing to lose. A friend’s BT router stopped working out of warranty ( 1 year… ) and I advised him to simply tell the company the first part, ignoring the second detail, and they replaced it free.

In GB, the set-up is different due to we have combination router/modems mostly; but rather than the ISP’s one, I use a Billion 7800N, very popular in Australia. Never had any problem; they issue new firmware quite often; and it’s quite powerful. They tend to the expensive end, but that or — obviously better — a newer model adapted to your requirements would be ideal.

I think I’ll ask for a replacement.

I wonder if they (TWC) now have combination modem/routers? Even if they do, I’ll bet they’re more expensive to rent after a couple months than just buying a new one.
