Wisconsin GOP passes union-stripping bill

Make it Linda Hunt and you might get a few more asterisks, Bricker.

or Helen Thomas…

You hang out in the wrong threads.

Facts.

Great. So America’s poor just needs to move India and they’ll be rich. Problem solved.

How about a little Hindu work ethic?

Might give that a try before considering moving lock, stock and barrel.

But you can’t deny that poverty is a big moving motivator. Almost as big a factor as the drug cartels, at least as far as moving "in"to the U.S. from Mexico.

Can someone please tell me what the poverty rates in India have to do with the poverty rates in the US?

Can’t you interpret a simple graph? Obviously, it shows that when Bill Gates moves Hank Azaria to India on Apu’s Kwik-E-Mart income, everyone below the poverty line in America gets a big bag of rupees.

Duh.

If you really care about human poverty - alleviating human suffering - you’d donate to even a rich Indian before the “poor” in the US; and certainly before you throw a hissy fit on behalf of middle-income, high-job-security government workers.

I have been considering the thought for some time now that Bricker and his father were supporters of the death squads in el Salvador, because I know from experience (trying to sponsor for immigration a couple of pilots I knew from my flying days whose lives, and the lives of their families had been threatened) that if you weren’t a death squad supporter you were sent back to El Salvador, usually to be tortured and killed.

Bricker claims to be a good Catholic. Bricker supports Arena. Arena, founded by Robert d’Abuisson ( known as"Major Blowtorch" after his favorite instrument of torture)(.www.enotes.com/genocide-encyclopedia/el-salvador) .

From this site:( "Roberto D’Aubuisson, a cashiered National Guard officer, was a key figure in death squad violence. According to the U.S. Embassy in San Salvador, one of his most notorious crimes was overseeing the drawing of lots for the “privilege” of assassinating Archbishop Romero. d’Abiusson’s motto,
displayed on posters and wall hangings popular with the Salvadoran elite, was
"Sirve a la Patria, mata un sacerdote. (“Serve the country, kill a priest”). And kill they did. 60,000 “rebels”, mostly peasants and high school students, six Jesuit priests and their houskeeper and her daughter, four middleaged American nuns who were dragged out of their VW microbus, stripped, raped and murdered and their bodies left beside the highway, and Archbishop Arnulfo Romera, murdered while saying mass in San Salvador.

Those are the swine you support, Bricker. 'Splains a lot.

Aw man, no one’s ever said I support death squads. :frowning: I haz a sad.

I wasn’t talking to you, asswipe.

And I had been, if you had posted yourself slobbering wet kisses on the asses of the Salvadoran butchers, and maybe Saint Ronnie Raygun’s literal embrace, on TV, of various Latin American murderers (Actually the embrace was of General Rios-Mont of Guatemala, who also murdered about 60,000 people, mostly Mayan indians) I would have asked you the same questions. Do you, in fact, support governments that torture, rape and murder tens of thousands of therir own people? Do you suport the rape and murder of nuns? Try this (I can’t get the link to copy) several page report in the New Yorker, so look up El Mogote in Google. Only don´t read it you hope to sleep tonight. A couple of quotes from survivors “I heard the children crying ‘Mama, they are hurting us! Mama, they are cutting us’” …“I watched as (the soldiers) hanged my brother who was three years old and the other children”… lf you support the Salvadoran dictators, you support death squads,

Well then, I suppose this took a really wrong turn.

(cough)

I know, that’s my point. As a fiscal conservative on the SDMB, I’ve gotten the “you are a drain on society,” the “you aren’t a good father,” the “how did you pay for school?,” and the “why do you want people without health insurance to die?,” but I’ve never gotten the “you support death squads.” Bricker’s gonna lord that one over on me at our next “fiscal conservatives of the SDMB” meeting.

Do you have some sort of cite that Bricker and his father supported the death squads, or this just slander? It’s an asshole thing to throw out there without any kind of backup.

Just to poke a hole in your theory, from what I recall Bricker’s father immigrated and Bricker himself was born here. I recall that Bricker is around 40 years old which would put his birth date around 1971. The death squads were active from 1978 on. Therefore your accusation seems to fall apart.

As an additional data point, I’ve met a few Salvadoreans who were leftists in those days who were able to immigrate legally.

Bricker says he supports ARENA. Arena support(ed) death squads. Therefore Bricker supports death squads. Just like anyone who supported the Nazis supported death camps.

Yeah. Your logic isn’t quite sound. I don’t know who Bricker supports in El Salvadorean politics or if he even has strong opinions on the subject, but saying that he “supports” death squads, because he supports a political party whose deceased past leader was also affiliated with the death squads seems a bit suspect. I should note that according to Wikipedia, ARENA also seems to regularly get between 32% to 39% of the votes in Salvadorean elections. Using this line of thought, you could say that someone who supports the Communist Party automatically supports death purges a la Stalin. The difference between Nazism and my other examples is that I don’t think more death squads is part of the ARENA platform whereas killing off the Jews and lebensraum were part of the Nazi ideology.
