Wither the Cinema Hercules? Will there ever be another movie Hercules?

Here’s a page with all the movie Herculi.

The Many Faces of Hercules.

Two questions -

Who was the best Hercules in your opinion?

There hasn’t been a Hercules movie out for quite some time story for quite some time. Is the movie Hercules genre dead?

One possible influence is the “coming out” of homosexuality since the 1960s. It’s pretty hard to do a muscle-man movie now without having to dodge a lot of homoerotic subtext. A Hercules movie that deliberately embraced this might be interesting, especially since the original Greek myths never shied away from bisexuality. Actually I’d like to see a version of Herclels as originally depicted in the Greek myths. Hercules did heroic things, but he was also a violent manic who was continually in trouble for killing people.

They missed out Nigel Green.

Last one was not all that long ago

From Netflix… Hercules (2005)

NBC’s epic miniseries follows the tragic story of Greek hero Hercules (Paul Telfer), who feels obligated to carry out 12 daring feats – including killing Hydra the beast and the feared Nemean lion – after slaying his three sons. Set against the stunning backdrop of New Zealand, the film also stars Sean Astin, Leelee Sobieski, Elizabeth Perkins, Tyler Mane, Kim Coates, Leeanna Walsman and Timothy Dalton.

and I add
the Greeks saw Hercules as a beardless youth who represented the best and worst in Man.He had fierce temper, but he could laugh at himself.Despite his strength,he spent most of his life in servitude. I don’t think he is out of style,he just needs the right vehicle.
Every few years there is a movie or miniseries about the guy,not bad for a guy who has been around longer than Christ

And it was TERRIBLE. Straight-to-TV garbage.

Lord yes. It was so wretched I couldn’t even mock it properly.

“Academy Award Playhouse presents… Hercules versus the Martians!”

with Pia Zadora as Hercules.

I doubt if the fact that homosexuality is no longer under the radar has made Hercules movies impossible unless openly gay – the success of the “Hercules” TV series would seem to negate that idea. But it might be that the openness of homosexuality nowadays (as compared with the 50s) has greatly reduced the, um, interest in creating Hercules films. Certainly, the older Hercules films appeared to have been made by gay guys who were slipping a little gay eye candy under the radar. Fans of DiD scenes have often lamented that most sword and sandal movies seemed to be very focussed on big, burly guys in chains rather than sexy slavegirls in chains. They guys always went around wearing leather shorts and not much else, the women tended to wear long robes that concealed their bodies very well. I guarantee you, if I’D been in charge of making sword and sandal movies, there would have been a lot of slavegirls walking around in chains and not much else.

I really don’t know if the guys who made sword and sandal movies were gay. It could be that censors of the time were much less attuned to naked guys than naked women, so they COULDN’T do the half-naked slavegirl thing. It’s a puzzler, alrighty.

Deeeeeeep Hurrrrting! Sandstorm!

Ok ok,I didn’t see the nbc miniseries, but I get that it sucked.I’m not into sweaty men,but by the gods,I love those cheapo epics.

Well, they were classics of movie stupidity.

Arnold Schwarzenegger in Hercules in New York was the best ever. That’s one movie you have to watch on an empty bladder unless you’re sitting on plastic!

I’d love to see Paul Giamatti play Hercules next for something different.

I wish “Hercules Returns” was out on DVD.
