It’s not a crime to discharge 13 shots inside your house, or deliberately miss the person you’re aiming at. But the shells were found outside his property (???) as was the gun (!!!)

You realize, I hope that 00-buck is 9 approximately .33 caliber pellets, and #4 buck is about 27 .24 pellets?
We wouldn’t want the Jehovah’s Witlesses to miss the implications of what we’re shooting at them, now would we?
I’m surprised that the Watchtower isn’t using this event to prove that we are indeed in the last days and that the end will be any time.

You’re truly in a sick sect when you think that ‘eveyone hates you’ which is one of the things your CULT teaches you about the ‘world’ that you are ‘no part of’.
I have never shied away from saying that I think the Watchtower and the ‘Jehovah’s Witnesses’ are one of the more despicable sects/cults out there - but that does not equal wishing direct harm on the individuals that are members.
(Extremely condensed story) That chick in Florida fired a “warning shot,” and they sentenced her to 20 years.
Look, the fun and educational way to handle it is, brush up on the basics of JW, LDS, Jack Chickian, whoever works your 'hood, have some tracts from each handy, and, whenever a missionary knocks, identify his/her faith and immediately start working loudly and zealously to convert him/her to one of the others. Go for some real spittle-flecked ranting, here. You get to create and enjoy an artistic performance, and sow inter-sectarian hostility! 
The JW’s came to my house. Brought out the bible to prove they had the answer. I told them the bible didn’t mean anything to me, because I am not a christian. They nor their fellows ever returned. I guess they thought I was the devil. If you don’t want them to return, just say you aren’t christian. You don’t need to bring out the fire power.
Meh. Tell 'em I ain’t a christian, then pull out the shotgun… It’s not like they actually deserve anything better.

The Jehovah’s Witnesses should talk to the NRA. Because the only thing that stops someone who answers a door with a gun is someone who knocks on a door with a gun.

Yeah, I really don’t get it either. If he shot at them he should be charged with three counts of attempted murder and probably sentenced to decades, if not life.

When I decided to post this thread I did not think for an instant that anyone who would read the article I quoted from, would not be shocked and outraged the same as I was about this man’s insane act, and I am still not convinced that any one of you would not be, your responses notwithstanding. I have read quite a few sneering, scoffing comments about the Witnesses here and there on the SDMB, enough to get the general impression that the great majority of Dopers are diametrically opposed to the Witnesses.
How much of what is said concerning dogs or shotguns or swords or such is said in seriousness I cannot assume; it would be a pity if any of you who say such things should have to defend your philosophy in front of a judge, as a few people have had to do. My experience has been that the overwhelming majority of people say “I’m not interested” and close the door. I have been content to let it go at that. Perhaps if I react politely they may be more receptive the next time around.
As for the gunman, wildly firing a gun like that suggests that he may be unbalanced. In California if someone shoots at you, it’s a felony whether you’re hit or not, and I assume that other states have similar laws. It’s clear to me this man acted without thinking.

And they don’t think anyone is the devil except for… well, the devil. Though they also think traditional organized religion is pretty close, including most of the Christian world.
And, Cheshire Human, JWs don’t believe in eternal Hell, just eternal annihilation but only after being resurrected, given a century to follow Jehovah, and then rejecting Him (except for those already destroyed in direct judgments from Jehovah- those who died in the Flood, in Sodom & Gomorrah, the rebels against Moses, those slain at Armageddon).
I haven’t written anything bad about Jehovah’s Witneses here or on any other website.

As Christians go, I find the Witnesses quite pleasant. I enjoy their intellectual approach to the Bible, they can provide cites.
That said, I live in a private community. Anybody knocking on my door is trespassing.
I won’t shoot them, but I will call security and have them removed.
If you poison the well with that kind of thread title, you have zero right to take any umbrage when people come back with sarcastic or offended responses.
