Well of course. Ephesians 4:5
Given the cited scripture’s obvious point - would you believe that the religion you choose to associate yourself with was the wrong one, or the right one?

[Samuel L Jackson/] There’s too many mother fuckin’ Witnesses on my mother fuckin’ lawn! [/Samuel L Jackson]
Boyo Jim - that’s epic. I love it…I want to see a GIF or something of that!
Given the cited scripture - how are you to say taht any one is ‘more right’ than the other?
What gives your sect any more ‘authority’ than any other?
Would you, perhaps, look at the background of the particular sect and decide if its claims mathced its actions?
That thread was a thing of beauty.
Really. Really?
You started this OP with a blanket statement, accusing us here at the SDMB of taking enjoyment in someone being shot at.
Many, many of us wrote that OF COURSE nobody would think like this, and it was rude and insulting for you to paint everyone here with that nasty, broad, accusatory brush.
Others responded with sarcasm. And it’s THESE sarcastic posts you choose to respond to?
You’ve got some serious problems going on my friend. And being rude, accusatory and defensive are just the least of them.
Yup. Background is a factor, but not nearly as important as what is being done here and now.
And the Bible says these are the a couple ways to identify Jesus’ followers today:
So you could argue that one or the other isn’t true because of XYZ circumstance, or whatever. But overall, that’s the guiding principles of the JW faith. One could say that it’s the guiding principle of all Christian faiths, but look at the actions, not the goals.
Who prints and distributes bible based literature in every country, in well over 600 languages … door to door?
Who is demonstrating love amongst themselves to the level that they will not engage in any violent acts or warfare of any kind, because of the possibility that the person on the other end of the violent act may be a fellow JW? (JW’s won’t go to war, or work for gov’t in capacities that support war)
So far, even with all the imperfections, stupidity, contradictions in theology, this is the one that strikes me as adhering the closest to the Bible’s admonitions. So far. We’ll see if that changes.
Serious problems? Nah, he’s just reacting emotionally. Needs a bit of guidance in the “think before you speak” department. We all do
So, would it be fine if the person on the other end was a Muslim, Catholic, Jew, or Wiccan?
OMG, Thank you so much! I totally was having “one of those” mornings and this made my laugh. I mean, I really laughed out loud. My dog was concerned. Thank you!
Hah! I love the “gotcha” types. I guess my entire life will now fall apart because the pedant found a banana peel for me to slip on.
No it wouldn’t. Violence isn’t an acceptable means to your ends, and is only acceptable in defense. That’s a pretty common theme that all people ascribe to, JW’s just decide it’s going to apply to every aspect of their lives, including whether to serve a country in war.
My point was, plenty of “Christians” go to war. They even have priests bless their efforts, or entire armies. JW’s, do not.
I think JWs are a cult with some beliefs that I personally find bizarre. I don’t consider them to be Christians because they reject what I believe to be the core definition of Christianity- belief in the divinity of Jesus. Of couse they have the right to believe whatever they want and to differ from mainstream Christianity in any way that floats their boat. All I ask is that you leave the rest of us alone. If your religion compels you to try to convert others, just be able to take no for an answer. If you knock on my door and ask if I want to talk about your religion and I say no, thank you, that should be the end of it. Skedaddle. Scram. Vamoose.
Does that give anyone a right to shoot someone? Of course not. If the JW won’t take no for an answer, call the cops. Get a restraining order if you have to. Let us live as we wish and we’ll respect your right to do the same.
You made a point of saying it was because there might be JWs on the other side. You didn’t say it was because you care for anyone but JWs. I don’t think it’s pedantic to ask the question, especially given your penchant for being fairly hateful and bigoted.
Penchant? That seems a bit of a broad brush, wouldn’t you agree?
Well, no matter **jsgoddess **- I’ll try my best to bow my head when you walk past - given your penchant for self-aggrandizing and superiority. Being a goddess and all.
No, I think penchant covers it.
On the plus side, when you go house to house, we all know you’d scurry away in fear and disgust if there were some hot gay action. Win-win, from my perspective.
Yep. Though it would be a bit odd if anyone stuck around to watch, wouldn’t it?
I’ll save you a seat by the fire.
It’s the “scurry in fear and disgust” vs “respectfully move away” distinction our dear Goddess is making…
Yeah, again, let’s pretend to be oh-so-surprised and shocked and upset that a self-identified Christian is more than a little turned off by gay sex. Let’s continue with THAT charade, how about it?
If not, then which particular charade should we be working with? Got any in mind?
:smack: Some people…
I know plenty of Christians- practicing ones- in my extended family who have no more problem in seeing gay sex than they would have watching any sex in general. That is to say, it’s private but not categorically more disturbing. Family members who worked on Obama’s political campaign and were lay leaders in their churches. My brother-in-law, my mother-in-law, my sister-in-law etc etc.
Christian doesn’t always mean bigoted evangelical types.
