Witness Protection Program- how does it work?

Does the government pay to move you? Do they tell you where to move to? Do they “get” you a job? How does that work- do you then work for the government, or do they force a private company to hire you? Do you totally lose all contact with your friends and family?
Just curious, if anyone knows.

Yes, to all your questions. You wouldn’t be working for the government, The WitSec program have contacts all over the U.S., and they set up a ‘job interview’ for you so that it seems to be on the up and up. Sammy Gravano, of Mafia fame comes to mind. He started up a pool installation business that was making him wealthier than he was already was, but, couldn’t stay out of trouble…he was importing and selling Ecstasy, and was caught. Many times, those in witness protection, are found out at their new locations, and have to be moved again. Usually, their whole immediate family must move with them. All contact with anyone else is forbidden. They can be dropped from the program completely, for infractions.
All the above from a book I read called ‘WITSEC’,
Inside The Federal Government Witness Protection Program’ by Gerald Shur…who started the program.
