Woman President

Q: When we finally have a woman president, what will we call her husband?

A: Mr. Clinton.
(Yes, I think they’ll stay together.)

Dispell my ignorance, Barker. you said:

What exactly does it say?

“No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citezen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Contitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President.”

Albright was born in what’s now the Czech Republic. When she visited Havel and co. earlier this year, there was a thought that she would replace Havel as President of the Czech Republic when he retired (he’s in fairly bad health). She ixnayed that idea, but I’m sure it’ll come back up when Clinton leaves office and Havel’s health declines.

What an interesting dilemma. Isn’t she currently third in line for Presidency? I wonder what would have happened if Clinton and Gore had died. Would it have passed over Albright to the Speaker of the House?

The succession order is VP, Speaker, Senate President Pro Tempore, THEN the Cabinet offices. Anyone ineligible for Pres or VP is skipped over (as Henry Kissinger would have been).

You would have seen President Gingrich or President Thurmond first, anyway.

BTW, I thought President of Iceland was a ceremonial office, with the PM holding the real reins. I’d only count people who have the power as well as the title.

I think that makes the late Sirimavo Bandaranaike of Sri Lanka, Indira Gandhi, and Golda Meir the first “real” women leaders - but they are all products of parliamentary systems, not direct-election systems.

Canadians, help me out: Was Kim Campbell considered a “leader” ?

It seems odd that the Czechs could make someone President who isn’t even a Czech Republic citizen.

My characterization of Liddy Dole as polarizing was a bit obscure. What I meant is that she’s the polar opposite (no pun intended) of HRC–I always thought she had a sort of Stepford wife quality. How about Christie Todd Whitman for President–I don’t know much about her but isn’t she a moderate Republican?

Well, I’m sure that if the situation had come to pass, she would’ve been repatriated in a jiffy.

Didn’t Israel offer the presidency to Albert Einstein in 1948? He wasn’t an Israeli citizen at the time, despite being eligible to apply for it.

Yeah…kinda like George Bush (the original motion picture, not the sequel). I didn’t mean to imply that I thought she would have been a good idea, but…OK, picture her running against Dukakis in 1988.
