Put a baited cat trap in front of your windows and catch it. If it’s a stray, kill it but make it quick. If it has a collar, turn a hose on it for a minute and let it go. Or you could go with your sniper idea but with a water pistol. Or if you’re really cunning, a PIR security light can be rigged to activate a sprinker…
Doesn’t the interweb have about a billion suggestions for deterring cats from using your garden as a toilet? Lemon peels, pepper, fox dung, lion dung…there are many.
Of course, if you catch the cat in the act a good dousing can be an effective deterrent as well

I’m with you on the death threats and internet vigilante bit, but seriously - “who gives a flying fuck?” The cat was someone’s pet. Someone’s property, and something they care about. You’ve been without running water for four days, apparently - why should anybody give a flying fuck? You’re not even getting hurt and it’s only affecting you and your family - nobody we care about. Is that any kind of reasonable attitude?
And? Did it get hurt? Did it die? Did it get wounded or otherwise molested? It was in a can for a while and then it was let out. Does a woman’s life need to be ruined over this? If that was my cat I’d settle for an apology and then just forget the whole thing because…as long as my cat didn’t get hurt…I wouldn’t give a flying fuck. I’m sick of dumbasses going crazy anytime any little sad thing happens to an animal. AND I’m sick of Internet vigilantes. This case just happens to have both things I hate mixed in together.

Not round here, they won’t – or anywhere else I’m familiar with. The owner of the wheelie bin has to take it out and position it at the kerb before the bin men come. Only bins correctly placed at the roadside will be emptied.
So if someone shoots into a school and misses the kids, it’s okay? If someone tries to grab your kid at the bus stop and drive off, but the kid wriggles free in the end, no harm done?

The odd thing is, she looks like she could be the neighborhood crazy cat lady who spends her days sitting in a cat hair-covered armchair surrounded by dozens of cats. Seeing her try to deliberately harm a cat seems really strange.

The bin men are a bit more relaxed round here* - we leave our bin on our front path so it doesn’t block the pavement and it gets collected just fine.

Sure. Her name, address, and all her personal information are now online for everyone to see and do whatever with. That leaves her open to violence, identity theft, and all kinds of harrassment FOREVER. A complete and total lack of privacy and security, all the while never having been adjudicated guilty of a crime in a court of law. You don’t find that excessive? Twenty years ago this would have been solved between the neighbors themselves, possibly with the police, a decision would have been made regarding punishment and/or fining, and then everyone would have gone on their way with no one else knowing. Now? The whole fucking world knows. Sometimes I hate the Internet.

Other than that, I’m not too concerned about the cat. My concern for the species diminished the more cat hair I walked away from my daughter’s house with. When you can’t pick up a clean top or dish for her without having to brush some hairs off, you tend not to mind when her Mum complains about finding our little girl strangling one of her “cat babies”
So? Everybody’s information is online for anyone who cares enough to find it. Most people don’t have to worry about it too much, because they don’t abuse animals on camera. Even so, in the event that she should actually be killed, or harassed FOREVER, I’ll try to summon up some outrage over that.
What’s actually going to happen is that her life will be unpleasant for a couple of weeks. I can absolutely live with that. We can only hope that it will be unpleasant *enough *to prevent her from doing anything that shitty again.

That said, I’m endlessly amused by this idea that the internet is the source of this woman’s troubles, not to mention the idea that writing a Facebook post wishing death on someone is somehow worse behavior than stuffing an actual living thing into a garbage bin.
