According to my Biography Magazine desk calendar, Oprah Winfrey is one of three women who own their won production companies. (HARPO) Who are the other two? What are the names of the companies? What television programs or films are they responsible for?
Doesn’t Mary Tyler Moore own one? MTM productions, I think.
Production companies are kinda vague entities. Almost every major star or director starts their own production company these days, so many women have them. Was the biography calendar more specific? Otherwise their definition is fairly narrow, not really straight ahead. If they qualified it with something like ‘really successful’ or ‘Oscar nominated’ they would be closer to the truth. How they came up with the magic number three is a mystery.
I agree with Space Otter–production companies are a dime a dozen these days. Often, stars get production deals as part of a contract for taking certain roles.
Given the constraints of the OP, the only other one that springs to mind is Jodie Foster’s EGG Pictures.

I believe that EGG Pictures produced Nell. I know that they produced a movie recently in North/South Carolina which has not been released yet.
I agree Space Otter. Conan O’Brien makes fun of this Hollywood trend occasionally on his late night tv show. I believe the Biography text was referring to companies in which a woman was the sole or primary owner. I can’t tell for sure, as it was rather vague.
Those kind of unnecessary details always irk me. Why tell me that she’s one of three without mentioning the others? Totally useless information, IMHO.
I know Drew Barrymore has her own production company. Plus Shari Lansing is the head of production at Paramount. She dosent own it but still.
Well, that settles it. The original information was incorrect. We can verify that Drew Barrymore, Mary Tyler Moore, and Jodie Foster have their own production companies.
