One of the largest tennis tournaments is taking place here in the So. Cal. desert this week. Last night I had the great fortune to see Martina Hingis and Monica Seles play. Wow, those girls are heavy hitters! It was a good match, even though it wasn’t that close (Hingis won 6-3, 6-2). It was unusually cold and windy, and hot chocolate cost $3.50, but I had a blast. The men’s match was Todd Martin and Karl Kucera, I only stayed for the first set because I needed to get home and thaw out. But I must say that the women’s match was thoroughly entertaining, very few unforced errors and lots of winners. It was almost like being at the US Open, without the surly fans and ringing cell phones.
