Ooo I’ll fight ya for her…
So how do we stack up against France? I have to work during the game (grrr!!!) but I have been told/have heard that France is playing very well. Does our defense work well with their strikers? Our D has always been a bit suspect…
During the USA game, I was struck with the play of Alex Morgan, was a late substitute. She was fast and seemed to play a style more akin to the Brazilians or other quick run and pass teams versus the more deliberate style typical of (recent?) American teams.
I think that if the Americans are to remain competitive in the future, they’ll need more players like Morgan and fewer of the big, strong and relatively slow players that we seem to have more of.
France has been one of the revelations of the tournament. I really like them. They have one of the best playmakers in the game in Louisa Necib, and a great defender in Sonia Bompastor. But their glaring weakness is goaltending. They’re on their third-string keeper now, I believe, and it’s not like the first two were that great. They also have a bit of trouble scoring. They have a couple of forwards who have good speed, and trouble finishing.
All in all, I believe the U.S. wins this one, but it should be a good match – assuming the refs allow it to be. (The referees for Japan-Germany and Sweden-Australia weren’t too horrid. Let’s hope we see those people again.) Japan-Sweden also promises to be a terrific match (I’m picking Japan to win). I hope nobody has any term papers due tomorrow.
Any idea if ESPN intend to have another, later in the day re-broadcast like they did on Sunday? Trying to decide whether to try and avoid news or just follow by Gamecast tomorrow morning.
