I read in NJ a man was on probation for robbery and part of his terms of probation was that he refrain from gambling (including the lottery.) So of course he bought an instant ticket and won and it was a big jackpot.
The newspapers I’ve read seem to indicate whether or not NJ will allow the man to keep the jackpot.
My question is why wouldn’t he be allowed to keep it.
I could see him being sent back to prison for violation of his probation, but what kind of law would say he couldn’t keep the money. He could still collect while in prison right?
I mean the lottery in Illinois for example says no underage people can buy tickets but it happens all the time. I know of at least 3 big winners where the people on TV said their kids bought the tickets, which is in clear violation, but they families still kept the money.
So if there is a law that says the guy couldn’t keep the money, what would it be?
Or is it the newspapers are confusing the facts and the reality is he is now facing going back to prison?
