Wonderful fox pictures

Really good stuff.

Definitely some nice shots.

Freaking awesome pics! Thanks for sharing that!

Some of those foxes seem very tame. Is that common?

Love the one of the guy holding the camera!

I think it is. If you watch the Werner Herzog’s amazing Grizzly Man, you’ll see that Treadwell is able to play with not just a fox, but a mother and her kits. They seem totally unafriad of him and even happy to interact with him.

First, seeing the name of KlondikeGeoff pop up on SDMB just made my day. Hi Geoff! I’m glad you are still with us.

Second, I really enjoyed the photos.

And the very next shot… through the lens, brought a big smile to my face. I love the (slightly) out-of-focus perspective that shows how impromptu the shot was.

Those are some beautiful images. I think the goofy-looking ones are my favorites, though–particularly #3. Makes me wish I’d had a decent camera with me on my (now long-ago) trip to Greenland, so I could have gotten better pictures of the Arctic foxes.

Random captioning:

  1. Photographers. Very dangerous. You go first.

  2. Forest yoga: Downward Fox position.

  3. chomp

  4. Grumpy Fox

  5. Fuzzy halos are best halos.

  6. So that’s where I left the anvil. Ow.

Some foxes are more tame than others through both random genetic factors and environment. Most foxes are skittish and vicious around people but those aren’t the ones that get photographed. People do keep some of the more tame foxes as pets sometimes even though it is usually illegal. If you get them very young and raise them by hand, some of them can make semi-decent pets.

However, the only truly tame foxes are the Domesticated Silver Foxes developed by the Russians as a breeding experiment. They selectively bred the most tame foxes over many generations until they developed a fox breed that is very similar in temperament to dogs. You can theoretically buy one if you want. They only cost $9000 plus fees to get one from Siberia to the U.S.

I like the window-licking fox.

Is the fox cub in number four using his friend as a fox-shield to avoid being shot? His friend looks terrified.

Two years ago, a pair had four kits and the little bitty kits hung out in the culvert down the street! (no water in it) The parents watched from a distance but folks in the neighborhood were able to come by and take pictures. SOOOOO cute.

These are right up there with the bobcat pics you took out your AZ patio window.

Foxes seem especially popular now. I see pictures of them all over the web. What gives? They are cute, but no more than they always were.

Glad y’all enjoyed the pics.

And, Crotalus, glad somebody remembered me. Yep, as te Irish say, “I am still on the right side of the sod.”

I know it has been a long time since I posted anything, but aside from a lot of medical problems, I just don’t seem to have the patience to read all the posts as i used to daily. I suppoe being 87 may have something to do with it.

Furthermore, I am thinking that “General Questions” may be a bit obsolete, as I have found very few questions that pop up in my mind that can’t be answered by Googling. Actually, I use Duck Duck Go, an excellent search engine that does not permit tracking. These days, it is wise to take every precaution possible against the hackers. The only problem is it seems a bit much to say “Duck Duck Going.”

My greetings to all the older members who may recall me.

Klondike

Geoff, I think lots of us know who you are and are pleased to see you posting. Especially such a cool thread as this one.

Guess I am an older member.

I concur about seeing the old guy (cough cough) starting a thread.

I must admit when I saw amazing Fox pictures I thought of 20th Century Fox. A nice surprise.

Very nice pictures, thanks for sharing, Klondike! My favorites are the one in all snow, and the desert one.

Nice. Thanks for sharing.
