Target has some nice inexpensive king size headboards, but when going to checkout, I notice that shipping charges on a $200 headboard cost $250. I’m dumbfounded on why anyone would pay that? I have an email in to them asking for justification of such high shipping. Anybody here have any ideas? I had an elliptical machine delivered here that cost nowhere near that to ship, so size and weight won’t work as an excuse for me.
I had the exact same problem a few months back when I was trying to order a wee little pendant from an online store. It cost almost $40.00 to ship a small aromatherapy necklace!
From what I was told, it was about packaging and the like needed to ship it, too. Complete ripoff in my book…
About 15 years ago I ordered a bed from Penney’s. They had to use a freight service to ship it, instead of UPS or FedEx, due to the size. I don’t recall exactly what the charges were, but I do remember thinking it was quite a lot. Did Target say what the shipping method would be?
Did the elliptical come in pieces? A headboard goes over most size limits set by UPS, and can’t be boxed smaller.
I ordered a headboard from Target last summer. We were moving, so I ordered the headboard a good 1 1/2 to 2 months before our move-out date, to be delivered to the old/current address, as there would be no one to accept delivery at the new house. Aside from the silly amount of shipping charges (ended up being about 80-90 dollars, if I remember correctly), the original “ships in 1-2 weeks” turned into over a month, with our move out rapidly closing in. Due to the stupid Amazon shipping rules or whatever, there was no way to cancel the order (they just tell you to return it after the fact). Just as I was about to call them up and pitch a fit, the headboard unexpectedly showed up right after another “delay in shipping date” notice.
So, to finish: I will never order anything from Target/Amazon again if it is large and/or I need it promptly. Matter of fact, I was wary about ordering ANYTHING from either retailer for quite a while.
Side note: Overstock.com also has a pretty decent selection of bed related stuff, and flat shipping charges. I almost always get their things quickly, and when I don’t, they are very helpful.
It might have when I did the checkout to see how much shipping was, but I can’t find anything right off hand on the website.
Yes it did, and it was delivered by a freight company-can’t remember right off hand which one, it’s been awhile. And I got it off Amazon.
I got a reply to my email and they gave me every kind of info except what I asked.
I would like to mention that I used to work in Target’s on-line oversize warehouse. We had a great reputation for customer service. (We had been Rivertown Trading before Target bought us.) Target sold that part of the business to Amazon.com, and deserves a great big raspberry for it!
