Just to give something like a quasi-serious answer: the mods have never discussed this kind of situation during my time on the staff, and I doubt they did before, either. We don’t have any kind of policy that covers this situation or lots of other crazy hypotheticals, and I’ll go ahead and say I don’t think we’re going to make one up. If it happens and we need to deal with it, we’ll deal with it. I kind of doubt a poster who was known to have killed another poster would really feel comfortable participating here and hearing about it regularly, but I’ve been surprised about that kind of thing before.

I tried to be. Thing is, I knew the plane was departing from either gate A, B, or C, and I chose gate A at random. But then the flight attendant showed me that gate B was full of Hitler clones glued to the corpses of Charles Manson and a bunch of ugly children, and offered me the chance to switch my choice to gate C. I didn’t switch, because hey, fifty-fifty chance of being right.

The big problem with killing another poster wouldn’t necessarily be any repercussions on this board.
The big problem would be that it would pretty much ruin your B list singing career.

I’ve heard behind closed doors in smokey rooms filled with cheap coffee mugs you can rape another poster during rape month and get a pass. And February is rape month so you still have a few days left (though to be honest this years one has royally sucked).
Not sure the SDMB has murder month so who knows…

Expanding briefly on what Marley said: as a general rule, we do not apply SDMB rules to non-Board related activities. There have been (and could be) exceptions, but “being a jerk” (as per JSexton’s joke above) means “being a jerk on our Message Boards.”
Thus (still hypothetical) we almost certainly would not ban someone because they’d been caught forging checks… unless one of the checks was their membership fee for SDMB.
Membership is the line in the sand. It’s open season on Guests – hell, we oughta have some contests for that. But if you kill a Member, you are depriving the SDMB of revenue. The only way to avoid banning is to pay their annual fee, for the rest of your life.
C K Dexter Haven is kidding, but in case this leads to a misunderstanding: we don’t have access to payment data. If your figurative SDMB check bounced, we wouldn’t know about it. You’d just lose your membership and become a guest.
