WOO-HOO--Bernie Madoff's prom night is TONIGHT

The perfect sentence would include some, you know, actual work, possibly at minimum wage, as others have said.

I know it feels good to wish for nasty things to happen to him, but that’s the heat of anger, and it’s just our killer-ape heritage speaking. That kind of thing carried out in reality leads to complications.

I think rape anywhere is disgusting. People expressing their wishes for rape in prisons makes me ill. Can’t we at least send this to the Pit?

If this is making you ill, you REALLY don’t want to read what I would post under pit rules. Really. I mean it.

Madoff was “remanded into custody” as they say pending his sentencing (which I believe is scheduled for June). He is currently incarcerated at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in lower Manhattan (which is no club Fed let me tell you) and I read this morning that he is separated from the other prisoners for his own safety.

Go ahead.

The prison system is dehumanizing and cruel. America needs to confront its own human rights abuses before focusing on other countries.

In what way, and what would you suggest?

(Other than cracking down on sexual and/or physical abuse that occurs)

I, on the other hand, do have expertise on the state of conditions at correctional facilities. A good general rule in life is don’t believe everything you see in movies or on TV. But when it comes to prison, the rule is don’t believe anything you see in movies or on TV.

Rapes are not a common occurence in prisons. Most prisoners are not raped. It’s no doubt a surprise to many people but the guards actually are there to guard against things like that.

We don’t rape prisoners. We don’t murder prisoners. We don’t beat prisoners. We don’t force prisoners to engage in bizarre gladiatorial combat or rigged football games or pornographic sex rings or illicit organ harvesting. In the New York state prison system, we’re currently addressing what is apparently one of the biggest remaining problems we’re facing - we’re all undergoing mandatory sensitivity training so we don’t inadvertantly say anything that would hurt a prisoner’s feelings.
