Congrats to OP!
However…
Sounds like those people might really enjoy a good Armagnac as opposed to a very finicky bourbon.

I’d bet anything that if you blindfolded any of these connoisseurs, they wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between this stuff and Jim Beam.
It’s highly wheated, so it should be pretty easy. I personally don’t like high wheat bourbons, so this isn’t the bourbon for me (I’ve only had it once), but picking it out from Beam is not difficult at all. It’ll be the sweeter and smoother one.
As an FYI, if you have an empty bottle, and you don’t want to keep it; sell it on Ebay. People are paying decent cash for them.
But make certain you clearly state the bottle is empty.
Sam Adams Utopias beer sells for $200 a bottle. The bottle itself is beautiful and worth maybe $20, but there were deceptive sellers years ago with ads were misleading.
I’m not a bourbon aficionado, but a friend who is offered me a taste of the 15 year old Pappy last xmas. It was nice.
Congrats!
Caskers.com was recently selling the 23 year old for $199.00. They sold out before I had a chance to get an order in.
Certainly there are many people who think a dollar bottle of scent is as acceptable a gift as the most lauded creations of Parisian perfumiers; that broken chocolate from a dime store will taste as sweet as that from Swiss masters; that a rough ragout of sheep or marmot innards seethed in an old firepot by tribesmen on the Mongolian plain is as fine a dining experience as a menu prepared by Brillat-Savarin.
It’s a definite point of view.
Yeah, I call it elitism-in-reverse.
I’ve recently grown quite fond of Brenne French Single Malt Whisky. It is double barrel age and finished in fresh Cognac barrels. Quite a unique whisky.
