I have a house on the Florida gulf coast built over the water. Age about 50 years. We noticed that the pilings ,which are driven into the water and extend to the roof line, were starting to swell at the top.We found they were completly rotted and full of salt .Not a little salt ,all salt. How and why would they be fine for 50 years and then leach this much salt 15’ feet up in a short time?
Why do you think this all happened at once instead of just reaching the point where you can notice it?
Thise pilings have been soaking up saltwater and evaporating off the water, leaving the salt for the past fifty years. They just recently reached the saturation point.
You may be right but I have lived in Florida for 30 years , in the construction trades and have never seen this. Some say it is a fungus that grows in the wood and brings the water with it . When the water dries it leaves the salt . Also the wood is not wet.
