The Maple Grove store is right in our neighborhood, so we go there a lot. Before that place opened, we went to Copps all the time. Cub has better prices, but their produce can be pretty nasty.
Yeah that’s the one. I always wondered if it was to emulate the old brick streets and to try to make you feel you were at an outside village market type place.
Clickety-clackety, this thread is giving me flashbacks! I’d totally forgotten that puzzling, tooth-rattling floor treatment.
Still, I loved Woodman’s - nowhere else can you find 1,376 different frozen pizzas!
And GreenForest toilet paper (.79!) and paper towels (.89!).
Not to mention, they (at least used to) carry Pasqual’s salsas & chili-cheese sauce - yum!
Sure, it takes a good 90 minutes, but they’ve got damnear everything under the sun in there.
You want really good produce? To the Farmer’s Market! Jah!
(right after Fargo came out, I overheard our office manager on the phone & realized every sentence was ending “Jah! Oh, jah”)
Never noticed the floors being weird… carts go just fine.
But, I’m sorry, that’s just on crack. Copps is way, way, WAY more expensive than Woodmans.
I shopped at Woodman’s once…and once was enough. They had a stack of porkchops in a display in the middle of the fuckin’ aisle. I know that I sometimes have food issues about sanitation and proper temperature, but seriously…a store that would put raw meat in a huge pile in the middle of the fuckin’ floor has absolutely no return business from me. I also usually avoid Copps (esp. Junction Rd.) after the manager there didn’t have a problem with their bagger putting a package of raw chicken on top of a bag of ripe apricots. Sentry Foods Hilldale is the store for me. The prices are decent, there is no more saver card, and the produce is usually decent. But if the construction project that is ongoing makes me park in a friggen parking ramp to get groceries…I may just mail-order groceries. Especially if the owners keep protesting the Whole Foods development.
Nothing compares to the prices at Woodmans. Copps is higher than Cubs, which is higher than Woodies. Go after 6:30pm and avoid weekends and you’re fine.
Meat & pork chops? Dunno, don’t eat meat. Their produce stinks, no doubt about it.
Not long ago they retiled a good portion of the east side store, maybe why it’s different. I never really noticed though, it’s just a floor people.
Where the heck is Maple Grove??
Maple Grove Rd runs across HWY PD/McKee Rd when you are heading West from Verona Rd. Family Video, PDQ and a Walgreens take up 3 of the intersection’s corners.
