Woodmans market (lame).

For reason that don’t matter to you I was in a couple of Woodmans Markets this week. Madison, Appleton, Kenosha. They don’t have them in Milwaukee so I’m never in them on a regular basis.

What the fuck is with the floor? Half the store has a floor that’s tiled with this small tile. Pushing a cart over it is miserable! Blunkblunkblunkblunkblunkblunkblunk.
It’s like pushing a cart over a heavily graveled road. The cart bumps up & down and makes a fucking racket like a truckload of metal garbage cans rolling down a hill.
The bumpbumpbump of the cart going over the grout lines of the tile actually made my wrist hurt while pushing the cart. It’s maddening. And the sound of other carts going over this shit only multiplies the misery. Rattlerattlerattle!

The other half of the store is smooth flooring. Why on earth would someone have half their business tiled with that insane tile to push metal carts over?

The one in La Crosse is like that too. I hate it.

And do the other ones keep the produce too cold so it’s all wilted?

The Wegmans closest to where I live is like that also. I don’t know if other ones are but they probably have all their stores like that.

Keeps the pobes out.

The what?

Jury is still out on that one. It’s a typo from the OP in the Farmer Jack pit thread. At least we think it’s a typo.

There is a Woodman’s down here in Illinois now too. They have also put the rattle tiles in, and it’s really annoying. Then again, so is a supermarket that takes 2 hours to get all the way through. They do have a nice 1/4 mile long cheese aisle though, so I can let it slide.

Fucking pobes.

The longer it takes you to get through the store, the more you buy.

  • Make pushing the cart difficult, to slow you down

  • Rearrange the aisles every 3 months whether they need it or not

  • Understaff the cash registers, so there’s a huge backlog.

Raking in the bucks ensues.

Sorry pkbites. I should have included a link. Here you go.

I do not recall the one in State College, PA being like that.

Is that the one in Erie? We lived in Meadville for 5 years and I was so desperate for good food that I was will to forgive Wegman’s anything. I do remember the bumpbadabumpbada, though–and it was it in the best part of the store, too.

Just another reason I hate Woodman’s. I know it’s cheap and employee-owned and all that good stuff, but good Og. I hate that every trip there is a minimum of 2 hours, I hate that finding decent produce is a total crapshoot, and I hate the fucking cart-rattling floor!

Yeah, but only HALF of the store has that annoying tile. the other half is smooth flooring. And it looks like it was purposely set up that way when you look at it. All 3 of the stores were like this. What the fuck?

Former Badger here weighing in, I quit going to Woodmans when I visit Cheesehead- land. (I stay at my Sister’s and usually make them dinner on occasion)

Their produce stinks! The Emplowner-yees tend to be a bit snarly. ( I’m on Break) I usually hit a Copps I think their called(bought out Kohls). Prices about the same, good and diverse produce.

Also what you said about the floors!

Actually Copps is a unique story. Up until sometime in the late 70’s/early 80’s Copps was a department store. When they failed at that they turned into a grocery store.
They may have bought out some of the buildings Kohls food stores used to be in, but not all of them. There are no Copps (that I know of) south of Stevens Point.
All of the former Kohls stores in South Eastern Wisconsin are either empty or something else like a Big Lots. But not Copps.

:smack: I take that back. I do believe there is a Copps grocery in Oshkosh. Right on the frontage road east of HWY 41.

As a pobe I have to admit tiny tiles clattering up my shopping experience might well disturb me on my way to buy my inexpensive, mass marketed, second quality food stuffs.

There are lots of 'em in Madison too.

Hee.

My roommate used to love Woodman’s when I was an undergrad at Madison. Me? I couldn’t stand the place - too crowded, too long, too impossible to get in and out of. I also didn’t see the price differential that she claimed was there. I almost always shopped at Kohl’s for groceries.

I hate Woodman’s… It’s always packed with the kind of idiots that leave carts in the middle of the isle. It looks dingy and old and I don’t think the prices are that great. The flooring is just another problem.

I much prefer Pick N’ Save. The one on Maple Grove Dr in Madison is nice, the new one in Oconomowoc is grocery heaven!
