WooHoo! Norton-Free and thanks, Dopers!

Especially to Daizy, Czarcasm, Minor7Flat5, Lynne_killi and all the others who offered advice in Eve’s thread about Norton AntiVirus being the spawn of hell. NAV had been giving me mouth-frothing, bug-eyed, kick-the-wall fits for bloody months. (Literally, from my gnawed cuticles.) Unistalling the p.o.s. and expensively installing NAV2005 didn’t end the woes. Oh no!

So I got it uninstalled* and replaced it with AVG. Bliss, bliss. Installation and set-up were a snap. It just cruises along quietly, doing what it’s supposed to without nagging and hectoring.

Thanks, thanks and more thanks for the great advice! My computer is no longer in actute danger of being hurled forcefully from a second-story window. My cuticles are healing up too.

*I’m not absolutely sure I got all the lingering bits of NAV trash removed. The removal tools linked in the Symantec website specifically stated they were for NAV03/04 and earlier. Oh well. I suppose such trash can be removed later.

I’ve been using AVG for about two years (after reading a thread here recommending it). I’ve used it on several computers and haven’t had any problems with it. Updates are quick and painless and it doesn’t interfere with any programs I’ve run. Best of all, my cuticles have remained intact and I think my skin is smoother, too. Now if I could just find a Spyware program that could make my hair less frizzy, I’d be in business.

What have you tried so far?
