Woohoo Treasure!

I was sorting through my bucket’o’random change out of boredom. I noticed a nickle that didn’t have quite the same look as the rest of the nickles. Checking it out farther it clearly looked wierd. 1945 too.
Yep, it’s:

Hehe, I’m such a geek but finds like this really make my day. Even wheat pennies and silver quarters make me happy. It’s a just a boring old coin, then suddenly, wait it’s not it’s special.I don’t really know why, probably cause it’s a close as I’ll ever get to the old childhood daydreams of finding a buried chest of treasure.

On the link you provided, I saw this section:

In addition to the quality of a coin, its value is also dependant on how rare it is. Below is a list of the approximate mintages of Silver Jefferson Nickels.

1942-P 58 Million
1942-S 33 Million
1943-P 271 Million
1943-S 104 Million
1943-D 15 Million
1944-P 119 Million
1944-S 22 Million
1944-D 32 Million
1945-P 119 Million
1945-S 59 Million
1945-D 37 Million

And for a moment I thought they were refering to the values of those nickels. I was thinking “Why is he posting, and not chilling it in the Caribean, saying ‘Marcelus Wallace was right.’?”

Me too, except I’ve never found a silver quarter, so I get my fun off Bicentennial quarters, Canadian coins and new state quarters. Today I got 2 shiny new Kansas quarters at the Rite Aid. (Pity the coin designer placed the sunflowers so that it looks like the bison just shat them.)

Several months ago I was rolling my dimes and thought “That’s an odd looking dime, kinda lighter than the others but not as shiny… OMG is that a silver dime?” It was, the first one I’ve ever found.

My oddest coin moment so far was getting a handful of change at the CVS and thinking “Wait a minute, that’s not a nickel. That’s not even round. What th’-” It was an English 20-pence piece, vaguely the size of a nickel, but it’s a heptagon for God’s sake. I’ve wondered ever since if the clerk was thick as a brick, or thought I was thick as a brick for accepting this weird coin she palmed off on me.

About six months ago, I was emptying my loose change into my big change jar, and I noticed something a little wierd about one of the pennies. I took a closer look… and found one of these.

More than once I’ve gotten a coin from the East Caribbean States in my change. Same size as a dime…
