Woot! I got my first HDTV, what should I know?

I picked it up today, a nice 32" LCD HDTV 720p. It’s sooo sweet. But I know very little about HDTV.

Where can I find a list of over the air digital channels in my area? (Jersey City, NJ/NYC). Is it worth it to get digital cable (I have basic cable right now). I got an antenna for over the air digital broadcasts that hooks up to the antenna hookup on my TV, but so does the basic cable line, do I need to manually switch the two wires depending on what I want to view? Anyone know a cheap place online where I can get YPbPr and HDMI wires to connect my DVD player?

Thanks for any suggestions and info you can give me!

Here you go.

Congrats, you about to learn what I did: Your cable company will offer, at added expense, one or two worthwhile HD channels. Neither of which will disply in panoramic full screen. Enjoy!

  1. Get digital cable. It’s worth it.

  2. Use the Yahoo TV Guide to find out what is available in your area.

  3. Once you have digital cable, you will not need an external antenna for anything.

  4. I bought my YPbPr cable from a big box store. Avoid Monster cables as they are over-priced. Some will tell you you will need excellent quality cable to appreciate digital. Well, if your DVD player is not an HD system as well, there is no need for excellent, over-priced cable when top quality will do.

And even regular DVDs will look better than analogue cable.
