Word 2007 Question

I’ve got two documents I’m working with and I’m viewing them side by side rather than going back and forth between each file.

Is there anyway I can save (and open) both docs side by side in one file rather than two? Thank you.

Either I’m not really understanding what you want to do, or your desire makes absolutely no sense…

to me, you’re basically asking if you can cut every other page out of “war and peace” and replace it with every other page of “hard times” - i don’t think any one would reasonably care to do this, so i’m not sure word would care to have their program and file structure set up in a way to accommodate this…

Nothing that complicated.

Word allows you to view two separate documents side by side (View > Side by Side). You have to open each document individually first (Select .doc A Control/Select .doc B). I’m being lazy and procrastinating and would like to know if I can create a file/folder with both .doc A and .doc B in it such that when I double click both individual documents will open in a side by side format.

Hope this makes sense.

seems to me like the only way you can open the two separate documents through one file would be… if the two separate documents became one document (hence my cut and paste analogy to a real book)

i mean that does sound very lazy

I think the jargon to describe what you want to do is to save a “workspace.”

Word 2007 can’t do this natively. You have to write or record a macro to do this. The macro itself would stored in your global template or possibly a separate file. However, the method you choose to store the macro is really a minor point. It’s the actual creation of the macro you have to experiment with.

Cool, this is what I wanted to know. Thank you.

To the OP, why not simply just open two different windows (not two tabs) that fit on your screen to view the docs? Now, the two files won’t scroll together, but you can look at them side-by-side.

I have no idea what I’m talking about. I have no idea what you’re talking about. You’d probably better just skip ahead to the next poster.
If you’re constantly working with a pair of docs and are simply sick of taking the time to open/arrange things, perhaps you could save a hair of time by using a simple batch file to open them both. Or take a look at this thread and write a small script to open/arrange windows. Again, I have not a clue, but maybe it’s a step in the right direction. Lastly, depending on what kind of files and whatnote you’re working with, have you considered dumping the text into two side-by-side boxes?
