Word for Man-loving?

If a “misogynist” is woman-hater, and a “misandrist” is a man-hater (cite), what is a man-lover?

A misanophile?

Androphile?

Androphile, I suppose. It’s mostly used in gay subculture to describe a romantic relationship between equal males. cite.

“mis” in “misogynist” and “misandrist” means “against” or, roughly-speaking “hating”. So misandrophile would be “one who hates to love men.” While I’ll admit that on occasion, I’ve been a misandrophile, I don’t think it’s a real word!

Philandrist.

One who loves men called Phil?

The ‘mis’ part means hate. You want the ‘phil’ part for love.

Philanthropist = lover of humans in general

So, to follow the Greek usage I’d go with

Philandrist = lover of males
Philogynist = lover of females

I’ve not seen either of thes two words used though.

Think “philanthropist” (lover of humanity), then narrow it down to “philandrist,” or lover of men in particular.

Or, you could google fu. (I would link, but I NEVER get it right.)

Andros doesn’t necessarily mean man, as anotes. Anthropos means man in general, and is also used to refer to men specifically. From all the translations of Greek I had to do in college, andros is very infrequently used (in the Koineic Bible, I believe it is only used twice), and in general only used in reference to particularly masculine, heroic individuals. I think Philandry would be lover of manly men. Philanthropist really should be used to describe a lover of men, either including women, as a subset of humanity, or not, as just a lover of men in general.

Urban Dictionary sez

Philandrist it is. Thanks!
