Word program ( need answer fast)

My michro soft word is down and I need to get some work finished pronto. Can anyone suggest any simple word program I can download,

Abiword is simple and is mostly MS Word compatible.

Open Office and Libra Office are both mostly MS Word compatible but are a bit more complicated as they are entire office packages and aren’t just a simple Word replacement. Libra Office is a fork off of Open Office so these are not two unrelated programs. They both come from the same origin.

Assuming this is a Windows PC and the document isn’t very complex, you may be able to use Wordpad, which should already be on the PC.

I will look into that right now.

I will let you know how it works out, thanks!

I keep running into the same problem with all the free downloads. It asks that I download some software managing progeam and then that never downloads and I get stuck in that screen.

LibraOffice uses the windows .msi installer, so you need to have that installed and properly running on your computer (.msi files are a Microsoft thing, not a LibraOffice thing).

Abiword downloads a simple .exe that you install.

Neither one should ask you to install some sort of download manager for your browser.

Maybe it’s an issue with the website he’s attempting to download from?

Nitpick in case it helps searching: it’s LibreOffice.

Just write an email.

Just go to Google Docs. If you have an existing document, you can upload it then edit it. If you want to create a new one you can do that. You can also save as a docx file to share, if need be. Or print, or just send a link to someone else.

Nothing to download or install.

I got the abi going and I am also interested in the google doc. I kept typing in google word trying to find it. Thanls for all the help.

I would have suggested Google Docs right off, preferably through Chrome. Imports and exports Word docs with near perfection, requires no installation.

I never suggest google docs for work documents. You are putting company sensitive information out on a remote server which is very bad from a security point of view.

Depending on the sensitivity of the documents or if you don’t care about the security issues involved then it’s no biggie.

The trouble I am having with google docs is that it seems to load up fine and give me a screen but directs me to hit + to start a new document. I can’t find a plus sign and everything I click on seems to be dead and non responsive.

Yeah, LibraOffice just weighs you down. :stuck_out_tongue:

LibreOffice is quite good, and in certain respects better that Word - simpler, less junk you don’t use. I have both.

I like Open Office.
