I’m creating a training manual and need a customizable Word template. Free would be great but I’m willing to pay for it if it’s got flexibility (changing colors, fonts, so on).
Lots of hacky looking sites come up with Google but nothing that seems suitable, even at MS Office site template section. I don’t know if I’m searching wrong or what but if anybody has a suggestion about where I might look, it’d be greatly appreciated.
I’ve never seen a Word template worth any time or effort. At best, the ones with tacky graphics and type-the-name fields for certificates and such might be useful. If you’re familiar enough with Word to create a structured document like a manual, you should be able to invest a few hours creating a clean style sheet that makes the job easier. Doing so will probably be far less work than trying to clean up and adapt someone else’s idea of a layout, and you’ll be intimately familar with the details as you progress.
Not saying it’s your situation, but a vast majority of people I’ve had ask for help with “Word templates” mean “I want a structured, styled, consistent document but I don’t want to have to fart around with all that stupid style stuff.” Templates are not a substitute for basic style management. Just because Word permits manual styling of every word and line doesn’t mean that’s a good practice… but convincing even a small set of “professional” Word users of that can be terminally frustrating. I use Word a lot… but not for anything more structured than a simple document with a level or two of headings. Nothing else.
Thanks for the response. Agreed, about the general worthlessness of Word templates. That’s why I was hoping against hope there was somehow something out there that I’ve just been missing, since I rarely use templates. No doubt, they’re frequently way more trouble than they’re worth even without the generally tackyness. Most of the time fiddling around with every last design element is actually something I enjoy. In this case it was a project that needs to be done like yesterday and only came up today so I figured WTH, will see if anybody knows of a decent template. My hopes weren’t high! Thanks again for the response, though.
