3/5 I didn’t even know were legitimate words - I was just legitimately perplexed and trying different consonants.

Why I go for the obscure over common idkw
I got 4 instead of three because I chose that same obscure word as my second to last guess.
I got 5 because I chose two obscure words instead of the obvious one. That’ll teach me to play right after midnight.
In other news, for those of you for whom Dordle, Quordle, Octordle, and Sedecordle just aren’t doing it for you anymore, there’s now Duotrigordle - 32 words in 37 guesses. This is just getting silly now.
Same here! I was hoping that was the word.

I thought it was going to be #3.
Then I was stumped, and used a word I knew wouldn’t be the answer, but I needed to know positions in order to figure it out.

Almost went for MOXIE at the end, but rejected it as an unlikely Wordle word.
^Thanks, @Aspenglow. I was fat-fingered typing on my phone (seriously, all these years, and I’ve never developed pin-point precision) and must have mucked up the tag (or plain forgotten it). Thought I had previewed, but clearly not.
No worries. We’ve all pooched that a time or two.

Glad i went for movie and not moxie.
CATER → Anagram of common starting word TRACE, but didn’t do much here…
SPINE → Two vowels but no consonants after 2…
MIDGE → Perhaps three vowels? This may take some, uh…
MOXIE → Yeah, I like the uncommon words too…
MOVIE
I maintain without evidence that MOXIE is the more beautiful of the two options to choose first (especially if you have more than one guess left…)
Wordle 271 4/6
LOUSE
FORGE
VOICE
MOVIE
Despite the par, this was a tough one for me. After a long stare following my opening word, I was convinced it had to be either FORCE or FORGE, and was surprised it wasn’t. More staring, and then I was absolutely certain that I had it in three with VOICE. My brain just wouldn’t go to an IE ending until the V and I came into play. Weird mental block.
I do not like tomorrow’s word.

I’m not sure if the third word was a legitimate choice in this game; certainly it’s in use in English today even if it had a non-English origin.
If you want to know the answer to your question, read the spoiler below:
In at least the word lists before the New York Times got a hold of it and edited it somewhat to remove words deemed offensive or too obscure, it does not appear in the possible answers list and is, as you discovered, in the allowable guesses list.
Thanks, pulykamell. (I wonder if there are any ‘loan words’ in the answers list? If you go back far enough, a large proportion of English words are loan words!)
