COMMA

Two straight days with a repeated letter.

Hi. Long-time Wordle thread reader, first-time Wordle thread poster. I expect my streak to hit 100 in a couple of days and was toying with self-indulgently chiming in then, but today is apt to prove more interesting.

So, no yellows today, and if Wordle had accepted my original third guess of GOUDA then presumably I would have lost my streak today. I used to switch starting words all the time but the one I used here has generally served me quite well (today notwithstanding) and so I’ve become pretty committed to it.

I first learned about Wordle from this thread! Clearly it had been around awhile but I feel I got in ahead of its explosion in popularity. My stats say I have played 99 times with a streak of 98, but I think I failed twice if I remember correctly including once before making a point of playing every day… I was caught off-guard by a repeated letter before I knew that was a thing, and 99 games ago was a word I didn’t know (FERRY and TAPIR). I also almost certainly would have lost the streak if the NYT hadn’t switched out that too-obscure-for-us-Yanks word that one time.

This one kicked my ass hard. I was completely stumped after three and had to step away. When I came back I was still stumped. VOCAB was a bit of a Hail Mary, but at least it confirmed CO__A.
Then came the huge and stupid unforced error: I thought, “Oh, we’re doubling up on both the C and the O,” and I completely ignored the previous placement clues. Aaargh! Wasted a move at five and was pretty sure I was headed toward my first loss.
So I stepped away again, and just let “CO__A” bounce around in my head for a while. An eternity later, COMMA came to me.
Phew indeed.

Oh an thanks for the tip to put the spoiler tags on separate lines. That was apparently the problem.

You can also do inline blurred text like this, where the tags obviously aren’t on their own lines. I think you just can’t mix and match; if either spoiler tag is on its own line, they both have to be. I have not confirmed this.
