A challenging five. All those black squares can get frustrating, even if they are ultimately helpful. I wasn’t terribly confident with SQUAD, but if that hadn’t been it, there would have been very few letters left, so I figured I’d probably get in in six regardless. But it was a leap.

After my first two guesses and staring at the result for twenty minutes, my third and fourth guesses were guaranteed-fails just to confirm or eliminate letters, something I almost never resort to.

I was happy when I thought of MORAL as a follow-up – checks two more vowels plus two of my favorite consonants – and even happier at the results. Only one possible (and obvious) word it could be for 3. I would say it was quick but it took me a hot minute to think of moral.
