"Wordle," a strangely compelling word game (Part 1)

ATOLL

Not much to say bout this one; each word let to the next fairly intuitively. Pretty sure ATOLL was my only choice at the end, so the double L wasn’t even a risk.

ROAST → Neither vowel in the 2-spot means they’re probably paired… try
GLOAT → whoops, I repeated the T where I knew it wasn’t but it paid off with the L. So now…
ATOLL

At least I didn’t have to agonize over it like yesterday’s…

Finally, I listened to my first instinct today, and it paid off! For my third guess, it was the first word that came to me, though I hesitated due to the double L, but I went for it anyways…and to my surprise, it was correct. Gotta love it when that happens.

Wordle #345

I only know it to mean a ring-shaped coral island or a small island, and thought it was a fairly common word. Is there another slang meaning to it or something?

Tomorrow’s Wordle, Today
Wordlebot always uses the same opening word. How boring.

BLUNT

MANOR

The only time I’ve ever encountered the word before was in the context of the nuclear bomb testing at Bikini Atoll during World War II. I would consider it way too obscure, but I didn’t actually know what it meant so I assumed it was an esoteric war-related word.

I guess maybe if you vacation in the Caribbean or something it might be more familiar? I’m more of a ski vacation kind of guy.

I’ve never been to the Caribbean. Hawaii yes though, and I’ve sailed around some of the islands there, though not sure that’s how I know the word. I’ve just seen and heard it often enough to be familiar with it. Being familiar with some people’s guess words is another story though…learned a few new ones since I started playing the game.

Bad day to not check A.

This was my 125th game; I’m curious to see how just my last 25 look.

Subtracting the above from my current totals I’m left with:

1:0
2:1
3:11
4:10
5:3
6:0

3.60 average. Nice, improvement without even any 2s to speak of. Didn’t expect that. (I’m guessing my total average is around 3.65.)

Although, interestingly, it is different if you are in hard mode or not.

My first 3 in awhile. Hooray.

Quick and easy three. Same second word as yesterday; would have been funny if that was it.

Just calculated my average and it’s 3.86.
Like some others here, I consider 4 to be “par,” so I’m happy with that.

Today’s has the potential for some inadvertent amusing phrases. We’ll see.
