"Wordle," a strangely compelling word game (Part 1)

TRACE
STORK
QUIRT
GIRTH

Might have been a three if I’d noticed that I was repeating the R in a bad position. But I might have guessed something else, too.

Well, I guess I won’t bitch about a 3 today.

IRATE
BIRTH
GIRTH

If I’d tried them in the order I’d identified them, it would have been a 2. But if I’d tried MIRTH first, it would have been a 4 – so I’ll shaddup now.

My thought process follows.

My first guess was

EARTH and it nailed the RTH.

Therefore the likely answers are these: BIRTH WORTH NORTH GIRTH BERTH FORTH GARTH FIRTH MIRTH
And I need to check these letters: B I W O N G F M

My next guess could be one of these:
BROWN(4) — and this leaves GIRTH GARTH
GOWNS(4) — and this leaves BIRTH BERTH FIRTH MIRTH
FROWN(4) — and this leaves GIRTH BERTH GARTH

For my second guess I went with BROWN, and therefore the answer is likely to be GIRTH.

Got it. I won’t bitch about 3, either.

ROIST
THRIP
MIRTH
GIRTH

Hmmm.

What the heck is ROIST?

A MOIST ROAST?

Ooofah*, that’s terrible. How many people did you make cringe reading that?

I’m unclear on the specific origin of Wordle in that either he made it specifically for his girlfriend as a birthday or anniversary present or whatever, or he was just making it for fun and to share with friends and family.

If the former, and I were doing it, I think I would 100% not include the words moist and panty in the valid answer list. I don’t find words cringy, but I do get some amusement out of the concept.

*Oofah is an exclamation similar to ‘ugh’ that I picked up from listening to Howard Stern. It amuses me that Google voice recognition recognizes it. (If I were typing I would have spelled it oofa.)

TRAIT → Not a bad start, and I know there aren’t two T’s again…
BITER → ?I?RT goes nowhere, so RI?T? or ?IRT? Try the latter…
DIRTY → How much of a trap is this? If no Y ending, must be an H…
MIRTH → I don’t think WIRTH is sufficiently famous, and FIRTH is kinda obscure, so try
GIRTH

Some 5s are a death march, but this one was kinda fun. When I hit three unplaced letters at the start I kinda threw out analysis for the next couple words.

Glad to be back in Three-land. I was lucky to uncover the G early and avoid the _IRTH trap, but I also like to think I played well on this one.

Same as ROISTER !
tbh, i surprised it was allowed !!

I hate tomorrow’s word.

STERN
TRAIL
RITZY
MIRTH
BOGUS
GIRTH

Near-loss. “BOGUS,” of course, was a test word, to check for ‘girth’ and ‘birth’–g and b had been eliminated I would have gone with the less-common FIRTH. “RITZY” was probably a bad choice as it’s more colloquial than Wordle usually turns out to be.

Sherrerd: Hardly any more colloquial than ZESTY (6/6, dammit!).

Bullitt: But BERTH and GARTH were eliminated by EARTH.

Aspenglow: You’re about the only person who tried the solution ahead of either MIRTH or BIRTH.

And I’m another of those ‘same first word every day’ people. The way I look at it, since you go into each Wordle knowing absolutely nothing about it, there’s nothing to gain by changing your first guess once you’ve found one you’re satisfied with.

(How do you respond to multiple posters without quotes? I’ve forgotten)

No, I tried BIRTH before the correct answer. I just skipped MIRTH.

That’s what I think, too. I deviated from my regular start word a couple of times when I first started playing and did not like the results. I’m happy with an uninterrupted streak of 142 games, 100% win record. I’ll stick with it.

Tomorrow’s Wordle, Today
I prayed for a better outcome today, and this happened.

After my second word, I saw a trap of four _IRTH words. Just rolled the dice on the order, and thankfully I got it in four.

Since we don’t know what time zone you are in (or at least I don’t), can you put the game # at the top of your posts? Thanks!

PIETY

Yay, a 3! *snoopy dance* I even took a risk by guessing at 2 instead of going with a second research word. Fortunately that was enough; I don’t see many possible words left after 2:

TPE__ has no solution, which left only P_ET_ or _PET_. There are only so many letters that can follow a T at the end of a word, and with only two spots for the P it didn’t take long to run through all the possibilities.
