I see the three _LOAT words, plus ALLOT. Maybe there are others. Either hope for a lucky 3 with the possibility of a 5 or a guaranteed 4 - unless I’m surprised by a different word. Decide to go for guaranteed 4.

#358 3/6.

I play it on my phone, and I finally discovered where they hide the number of the Wordle. Been wondering where y’all have been getting the number from!

Anyhow, after my usual opening of SLANT, I already had enough info to narrow it down. But not that much - that left me with ALERT, ALOFT, ALOTT, BLOAT, FLOAT, GLOAT, BLEAT, CLEAT, PLEAT as possibilities. Went with BLOAT on my second try because no matter which way things went, I’d have no more than two remaining possibilities out of those nine. Guessed the right one out of those two on the third try.

SLANT
BLOAT
FLOAT

Recapping, I got a 5/6 on 356: after SLANT, CHORE, DUMPY I was down to PETTY and PIETY. Guessed wrong, of course. Is the solution really that common a word anymore? Maybe it still is on Wardle’s side of the pond.

4/6 on 357, after SLANT, CHORE I had it down to 2 possibilities. Had to go with the majestic MOOSE on #3, but that was the wrong choice.

unlucky today.

I was careless, and didn’t agree how many options there were, until my first *LOAT guess.

Sorry, that was poorly worded on my part. What I meant was that you were the only one who tried the solution before both the other two _IRTH possibilities had been eliminated.

In the stats screen there’s a share button. Hit that, copy to clipboard, and paste it into a reply here. It will include the game number as well as the little colored squares.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don’t do anything on the phone that involves typing more than a few words, I like my QWERTY keyboard for posting at the Dope, blog comments, hell, even Twitter.

I had a very similar experience to EllisDee, I think. A good second word, and some luck on three. My thinking: “If it’s _LOAT, I’ll have it in 3 to 5. If not, we’ll see what reveals itself.” And boom, there it was!

Hmmm. One nice thing about discourse is that it remembers drafts. You could start a post by just pasting the share but not submitting the new post. Next time you open the thread on the computer, discourse should still have the shared stuff saved. Not that you need to or anything; just spitballing.

(I agree with you, I don’t type anything on the phone, but I do dictate massive reams of verbal diarrhea into the phone. This post, for example.)

Well, Lady Luck was with me today.

I just wanted to test out the ‘AT’ at the end of the word, maybe eliminate another vowel and a couple of common letters. The only other word that came to mind was ‘BLOAT,’ and I didn’t like that one! Hadn’t yet thought of ‘GLOAT.’ So definitely pure luck.

GLOAT and BLOAT were eliminated, along with GROAT, but I actually tried CROAT first before FLOAT, only to find it was not in the word list. So a rather lucky 3.

Nice and fast. Could have been faster if at step 2 I’d reflected that the Wordle list isn’t friendly to ‘unpleasant’ concepts, for the most part. As it was I just wanted to try a paired-consonant beginning that used O and A and ended in a good-to-test third consonant, preferably T.

I unexpectedly got tomorrow’s on the third guess. I thought I was taking a needless risk, but lucked out.
