I don’t have much of a dog in the fight about repeated answers, as I’ve never referred to the list and don’t intend to. But for those who do, by the time, say, 2000 or so so words have been eliminated from consideration, it becomes quite a different game, doesn’t it? I’d honestly prefer to leave the field open and thus keep the game challenging as more time passes and more words have been used.
Mine, too.

Yep, looks like the only one to me too.
(Just realized this post spoils the answer so edited to hide. Sorry, my bad!)
It’s not lost on me that my “clamp store” strategy of checking M instead of N cost me two guesses here. Since I checked all 10 letters on this one (clams trope) I ended up burning guesses on white and quite, both of which should have been eliminated by hitting an N.
I prefer M because I think – but do not know – that M is a more common trap letter than N. But now I’m starting to wonder if that’s even true. The original inspiration for my strategy was the SHA_E trap, where M is a solution but N is not. But that’s literally just one example. _IGHT has both, and I’m sure some include N but not M.
I’m once again getting kind of curious to run an analysis to identify the 10 most common trap letters. I think I might actually try to do it this time if only because the logic puzzle of how to identify the traps is appealing. I legitimately may not be able to figure out a satisfactory solution. At least one that runs in seconds (or maybe minutes) instead of weeks.
My strategy worked great for the better part of a hundred guesses, averaging <3.7. But now the subsequent 125 games have been more like >3.8, so I think that initial hot streak may have just been luck. Still more 2s & 3s than 5s & 6s, but WAY more 4s. So I feel like trying out a new strategy might be just what the doctor ordered.
(I linked the wrong post in the previous reply, so I deleted it by changing it to “<deleted>” (no quotes) and it appears blank now. I kinda like that.)

I’d bought some fancy bread earlier in the week so decided to give OATEN a try–not a typical Wordle word for most of the game’s run, but who knows, now? (Other options I could think of for step 3 were precluded by having been solutions before; until I hear otherwise I’ll assume it’s going to work that way.)
Exactly.

Why is it I only get low numbers when I am lucky. Anyway, appropriate word for Veteran’s Day. I wonder if the NYT is going to do theme words.
