I’m another who couldn’t quite believe they’d be so overt with the holiday-theming. I could easily have had a 2! But at least (!) this was a fast 3.

FEAST

I’ve been checking for the C all month (it’s often in my first two words)…last time it showed up was 10/27, which is a little unusual. Anyhow, when the A hit in 3rd spot, and E in yellow, I figured it had to be: Beast, Feast, Least, or Yeast. And I just knew it had to be the “theme” word, and yep.

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving! :turkey:

Before I even started, I checked the list of past solutions to make sure BLACK (as in Friday, of course) was already taken (it was).

After my first two words, I was assuming a TCH ending, so I was coming up with BITCH, DITCH, PITCH, WITCH, BUTCH, and previous solution DUTCH. I figured BUTCH was unlikely and BITCH was right out, so I went with WIPED as my third word to see which one of the others it was. It wasn’t any of them, as it turned out, but I saw the solution pretty quickly then.

Mrs. solost and I play Wordle together. She had a theory that since the change in word curation, they’ve been doing words themed to the day or a current event, which she thought was stupid if true. Her evidence? The word UNITE a couple days after the election. MEDAL on Veteran’s Day. I thought, eh, could be a coincidence.

Then yesterday, Thanksgiving Day, the word was FEAST  I knew it as soon as I got the F and the A.

Also, BEGIN for the first day NYT took over the curation. Obviously they can’t do this every day, but with the three you mention, and BEGIN and Wednesday’s DRIVE, that’s five seemingly themed solutions in the 19 days since they took over curating the list. They really need to ease way off on this, even if it does provide an unusual number of opportunities to get a 1.

ETA: Thinking ahead, LIGHT has already been used, which is the only 5-letter word that I can think of that’s Hanukah-related. For Christmas, GOOSE has been used, but SANTA himself is still available, as are two of his reindeer: VIXEN and CUPID. (COMET’s been used.) They’re more likely to save CUPID for Valentine’s Day, so…

Kind of a fun par. I had four letters, in order, and just needed to shift them all one space to the left and add a Y.
Now I have “:musical_note:The Itchy and Scratchy Shoooow! :musical_note:” stuck in my head.

I really hope the NYT is not considering opening the game up to proper nouns. I doubt they are though.

Another 3. I had to wrench on this one, though. The coffee is cold!

Even WordleBot was impressed, because my second try eliminated all other words but the solution.

I noticed this morning that DUTCH was a past solution (#119). (Blurred for its relevance to today.) It’s not a noun, but it’s capitalized as if it were a proper noun. (Proper adjective - is that a thing?)

For Christmas they could use either snowy or white, but I didn’t check if either had been used.
