Gah. I drove the green and then three-putted.
With four letters in the first word, you’d think this would be a gimme. After looking for a long time, the only words I found with P, A, T, and O were TOPAZ and APORT. Don’t know how I missed that D, but there you have it.
Now that is a quality analogy.

Similar to @Newtosite --with About having been a better choice than Begat. After my guess 2 it was clear A had to be in either 1st or 2nd position, and I decided to try 1st-position words, first. (And a lot have already been solutions. So far they don’t seem to be repeating, as was threatened a while back…)
