"Wordle," a strangely compelling word game (Part 1)

NADIR
SIGHT
SLICK
SPILL

I was waffling between SPILL and SMILE. Usually I’ll avoid putting up double letters until I absolutely have to, but for some reason my gut told me to go for it. Seems like there have been more doubles than not lately.
I also didn’t try for any more vowels after finding the I. So I did things a bit differently today, but I still got there.

VIVID → About the best start I could expect, really…
INEPT → Kinda the way I was feeling about myself after this one…
PRICK → Looks like a single I word. Try some consonants…
BLIMP → I have ?PI(L?|?L). T is gone, so not SPILT. Not much left but
SPILL

I try to avoid doubles, but there really wasn’t much left. SPOIL would have been a better guess on 3, might have gotten it in 4.

I’ve recently changed my starting words. There are no repeated letters in the first three words.

HAIRY
STONE
CLUMP
SPILL

In the previous three starting words there was one repeated letter, the E:

IRATE
LOCUS
HYMEN

Are there five playable words to uncover 25 letters, leaving out X?

I started trying to think of some, starting with Q, then B (bonus, “my” B word includes a W), then J. Oh, nice, the J pairs with U…

Turns out “my” brilliant guesses were:

QUICK
BROWN
JUMPS

I literally came up with them in sentence order. Such a knucklehead.

The challenge stands. Can anyone think of five words covering every letter except X, or possibly Z?

Yes, apparently, because wordle accepts some pretty obscure stuff.

Spoiler - BRICK, JUMPY, GLENT, VOZHD, WAQFS

From this reddit thread

Ha! Some of those words are some bullshit, heh. Thanks for the link, I’ll check it out after I try for myself. I’ll definitely be using an anagram tool.

Guessed wrong on the two likelies.

I start Quordle with
COURT
IMPLY
WEANS
(In some order)

So I have a W where you have an H, and our other letters are the same. I think yours are better than mine. Maybe I’ll switch. I like the locations of some of your letters, as well as the use of “H”.

For Wordle, i usually start with COURT and LEANS, and then change my words based on what I’ve learned.

It was scary the other day when

HAIRY
STONE
CLUMP

only yielded one yellow square. I was truly scared. You might even say that my fright was vivid.

Same.

Magnificent

Nice, same! (But not the same first word.)

CHORD
CHANT

I was torn between CHIEF and CHANT, though now in hindsight I didn’t think of CHIME or CHAIN. I did think of CHAFF but deemed it less common. Regardless, I was guessing immediately, not having to burn a second word fishing for letters. It could have easily gone to four guesses. CHAIN would have been a smarter play to ensure not going to four guesses. Glad I didn’t think of it.

ETA: Or CHEAT or CHEST or CHUCK or holy crap, that could have gone badly.

ALERT
SAINT
CHANT

Interesting how today’s seems to be quite easy. I wonder if that’s because it has many of those frequent letters.

How do i share from NYT, with just the color blocks?

At any rate got it in three

PARSE
SPOUT
SPILL

When you win, a popup comes up with a big “SHARE” button. Clicking that saves the squares to your clipboard, so you can paste it into your social media.
