I thought I had it with my fourth guess. It took me a while to come up with the right word. But I had eliminated so many letters, it pretty much had to be that. I think this one was hard because of the double letter and also because it is a less common word here.

I barely got that one in 6 as well. I actually thought of it earlier, then thought, nah, that can’t be it, they always use very basic, common, and unambiguously English words!

I suppose there is a very large number of English speakers for whom it is an everyday word. But yes, every puzzle I’ve solved up to this one has been a much more common word for me. Even “bloke” which some other Americans complained about is not a word I tend to use, but it’s very familiar. I know the word “rupee,” but it’s not a word I even hear regularly, let alone use. (NB: I’m not complaining.)
