A good three. Scoredle’s trick of doubling up on an unplaced letter got the R in place and found the terminal Y. I was just lucky I didn’t see CURLY first (nyuk, nyuk, nyuk).
IRATE’s average improves from 4.27 to 4.17.

I actually did this one systematically. After two I saw the trap and thought I was left with BROKE, DROVE, FROZE, GROPE, GROVE, or PROBE. By choosing GROVE, I was able to either confirm or eliminate GROVE, and GROPE and if I had only the V it could be DROVE. With no new letters that left PROBE, BROKE and FROZE and choosing PROBE gave me the answer in five without breaking hard mode and with a spare guess in case I missed something like PROVE or ERODE, both of which I failed to see.
