RAILS → Just barely. At least half the vowels are gone. Try another - and N is still in play too
MANGO → Missed on N, but that M is nice - and where should the G go? Thought a while about whether it should go 3rd or last, tried lots of vowels, but figured out we’ve got two repeats…

I borrowed Scordle’s trick of doubling up on the unplaced M, which turned out to be the winning strategy. (Plus, Wordle seems to be on an X kick lately, though not today.)
CAMEO is one of my top ten starters, and improved today from 3.73 to 3.67.

Given that I only had one letter after my first two words, a 3 was pretty much out of the question. So I’m quite happy with a 4.

I wrenched and wrenched on this one. Apparently I came up with legitimate Wordle words I didn’t even know were words, so didn’t consider trying them (WAUGH, HAUGH, BAULK, the last I never spell with a ‘U’). I came up with MAMMA but as it used just two letters… I kept looking. MAGMA hit like a lightning bolt. Fortunately and at last!
