I had nine options after guess two and eliminated seven with my test word. Unfortunately I then guessed wrong.

Sounds like an interesting plot for a show
Maybe!
AUDIO → A great opener for vowels, but when I get a chance to try it I only get one. At least D was a good pickup. Better try that E.
DIETS → Found it. Try R, or L, or N? (Actually, RILED would have been good here, not that it would have helped necessarily)
CRIED → Switch D & E, crank a little U2 and get
PRIDE → the wrong guess. Pretty sure it’s not GRIDE, so

Scoredle also tried the last two guesses in the sequence I did, so I feel somewhat vindicated.

CLART
BRIDE
Well, that was quite a ride! First of all, again with the —I-E! I was in this exact same situation three days ago with WRITE, when I started with OPINE. Deja vu! So again, I wrote out a long list of words and counted up the letters. In this case, C,L,R, and T were the most frequent. And I wanted A in case of ALIVE or ALIKE. Hmmm… is CLART a word? Apparently, if you’re a Scotsman describing a clump of dirt on your shoe, it is. And it wiped away a lot of words for me. So then B and D were the most common of the the remaining words, and a little luck came my way as well. A very fun three!

Sleuth word at 3 (Nudge) to narrow things down, and that it did.
And it “cleaned up the dirt” (long list of words) rather well! It’s always great when random words are in fact words, and allowed too, in order to narrow things down.
@chiliwillybing should have trusted the B like @EllisDee did! (I didn’t either though…I saw the word, but I went for a sleuth word instead).
